Because PostHog charges separately for each product, your bill depends on the events, recordings, requests and other units you consume. This guide explains the free allowances, progressive rates, examples, spending caps, optional packages and third-party offers without treating them as one subscription.
Pricing reviewed: October 12, 2026. All amounts are in USD before applicable taxes. Figures are based on PostHog’s official pricing and the product pages linked in the relevant sections. Check the live calculator before making a purchase decision.
How Much Does PostHog Cost in 2026?
PostHog offers two basic billing arrangements: Free and Pay-as-you-go. Both receive monthly product allowances. The Free arrangement stops eligible usage at its limits, while Pay-as-you-go bills overages at each product’s rate. Boost, Scale and Enterprise are optional platform packages that add administrative, security and support features. They are not prerequisites for ordinary usage billing.
| Billing option | Base or package fee | Key distinction | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Permanent monthly allowances; no automatic paid overages | Early projects and small apps |
| Pay-as-you-go | $0 mandatory base fee | Charges for usage beyond the free allowances | Growing applications |
| Boost add-on | $250 per month, plus usage | More organization and security controls | Teams with administrative needs |
| Scale add-on | $750 per month, plus usage | Adds SAML and priority support to Boost features | Organizations scaling access controls |
| Enterprise add-on | Custom quote | Contractual, access and support capabilities | Larger regulated or complex teams |

PostHog does not charge its regular analytics users per dashboard seat. Activity determines the primary product charges, although the chosen package may change organization permissions, project limits and support.
How Does PostHog Usage-Based Billing Work?
Each enabled PostHog product has a separate billable unit and monthly allowance. Product Analytics counts captured events, web Session Replay counts recordings, Feature Flags counts eligible endpoint requests and Surveys counts responses. On Pay-as-you-go, PostHog applies the free allowance first, then calculates overages using progressive volume rates for that product.
Progressive pricing means each band of billable usage is priced at that band’s rate. A cheaper rate reached at higher volume does not usually reduce the price of every earlier unit. An application can therefore pay for recordings while still remaining within the free analytics event allowance.
If you are building a new app, keep analytics costs separate from development and hosting. A founder using Lovable, for example, has one budget for the application and another for PostHog instrumentation. Primingo’s Lovable pricing guide explains the development side of that decision.
What Does the PostHog Free Tier Include?
The PostHog Free tier is permanent rather than a time-limited trial. It provides independent product allowances that reset every billing month, including 1 million analytics events, 5,000 web recordings, 1 million feature flag requests, 100,000 exceptions and 1,500 survey responses. You do not need a credit card to start, and unused allowances do not roll over.
| PostHog product | Monthly free allowance | What is measured |
|---|---|---|
| Product Analytics | 1,000,000 | Captured events |
| Web Session Replay | 5,000 | Web recordings |
| Feature Flags and Experiments | 1,000,000 | Feature flag requests shared with experiments |
| Surveys | 1,500 | Responses |
| Error Tracking | 100,000 | Exceptions |
| Data Warehouse | 1,000,000 | Synced rows, with published historical allowance terms |
| AI Observability | 100,000 | Events |
| PostHog AI | 500 | Credits |
| Logs | 10 GB | Ingested log volume |

If you reach a free allowance without upgrading, PostHog can stop accepting affected usage. That behavior prevents surprise charges, but it also makes monitoring essential for production applications.
How Much Does PostHog Product Analytics Cost?
PostHog Product Analytics includes 1 million captured events per month at no charge. After that, anonymous events begin at $0.00005 per event, with lower rates in later volume brackets. Identified events can cost more because they use person profiles. The number of captured events, rather than the number of visitors, determines standard analytics usage.
| Anonymous events each month | Rate for events in this bracket |
|---|---|
| First 1 million | Free |
| 1 million to 2 million | $0.0000500 |
| 2 million to 15 million | $0.0000343 |
| 15 million to 50 million | $0.0000295 |
| 50 million to 100 million | $0.0000218 |
| 100 million to 250 million | $0.0000150 |
| Above 250 million | $0.0000090 |
For example, 12 million anonymous events cost approximately $393. The first million are free, the next million cost $50 and the remaining 10 million cost $343. These rates come from the official Product Analytics pricing calculator. The example excludes identified events, other products, platform packages and tax.
Why Do Anonymous and Identified Events Cost Different Amounts?
Anonymous events record activity without creating a person profile. Identified events link activity to a person and allow more detailed customer analysis, but require extra processing. PostHog says anonymous events can be up to four times cheaper. The first 1 million free events are shared across both types, not granted separately for each.
For most marketing sites, anonymous events may be sufficient for aggregate trends. A subscription product that needs person-level cohorts and lifecycle reporting may require identified events. Avoid identifying visitors unnecessarily, but do not remove identification when it is essential to your reporting. See PostHog’s event identity documentation for SDK behavior and billing details.
How Much Does PostHog Session Replay Cost?
Web Session Replay provides 5,000 free recordings each month. Additional recordings start at $0.005 each, and PostHog applies volume discounts at higher usage levels. For 10,000 web recordings, the first 5,000 are free and the next 5,000 cost approximately $25, before other PostHog products or platform fees.
Unlike analytics events, a recording captures a session that your team can inspect to understand navigation, clicks, errors or friction. Use sampling and selective capture to focus on useful journeys rather than recording every low-value visit. Confirm mobile replay allowances and pricing separately because they are not interchangeable with the web recording quota.
PostHog publishes the current starting rate on its Session Replay page.
How Much Do PostHog Feature Flags and Experiments Cost?
Feature Flags include 1 million free eligible requests each month, followed by rates starting at $0.0001 per request. Experiments use the Feature Flags billing system, so experiment evaluations do not create an entirely separate flat subscription. The count depends on requests made to the flags endpoint, not the number of flags you have created.
SDK startup, user identification, property updates and flag reloads can trigger requests. One request may evaluate several flags, which is why simply counting configured flags produces a misleading forecast. PostHog explains these triggers in its Feature Flags troubleshooting guide.
What Do PostHog’s Other Products Cost?
Beyond analytics, replay and feature flags, PostHog offers Surveys, Error Tracking, a Data Warehouse, Data Pipelines, AI Observability, Logs, PostHog AI and other products. Each has its own allowance and billing unit. A team should enable only the services it will use, then review each product’s live calculator before estimating combined spending.
- Surveys: Responses are the central billing unit, with 1,500 free responses monthly.
- Error Tracking: Exception volume determines usage, with 100,000 exceptions free.
- Data Warehouse: Synced rows determine usage, with a monthly allowance of 1 million rows.
- AI Observability: The free allowance covers 100,000 events. The monitoring bill does not replace your model provider’s token charges.
- PostHog AI: A separate credit meter begins with 500 free credits per month.
- Logs: Ingestion is measured in gigabytes, with 10 GB free each month. Extra retention has separate terms.
For AI products, calculate workflow execution and observation as separate costs. Someone automating a business process through Gumloop may pay Gumloop for model and workflow activity while using PostHog to measure how the resulting app behaves. Primingo’s Gumloop pricing breakdown covers the automation side.
How Can You Calculate a Monthly PostHog Bill?
Estimate monthly PostHog charges by subtracting each product’s free allowance, applying its progressive overage rates and adding any chosen platform package. Separate anonymous from identified analytics events, and do not combine web and mobile recording allowances. The final total also depends on your location’s applicable taxes.
Example: A SaaS product records 1.5 million anonymous analytics events and 10,000 web Session Replay recordings in one month.
| Product | Monthly quantity | Quantity above free allowance | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anonymous analytics events | 1,500,000 | 500,000 events | $25 |
| Web Session Replay | 10,000 | 5,000 recordings | $25 |
| Estimated product usage total | Two products | First paid bracket for each | $50 |

What Happens When You Reach a PostHog Billing Limit?
On Free, PostHog can stop accepting additional product usage after the monthly allowance is exhausted. On Pay-as-you-go, eligible overages continue at paid rates unless a configured billing cap is reached. A hard cap can prevent unwanted charges but may permanently drop affected events or return quota-limited feature flag responses.

PostHog supports separate billing limits for individual products. Set alerts before reaching critical thresholds, especially when missed analytics events could affect funnels, production reporting or release decisions. Its official billing FAQ explains what happens when limits are reached.
What Do PostHog Boost, Scale and Enterprise Include?
Boost costs $250 per month, Scale costs $750 per month and Enterprise has custom pricing. These packages address team administration, security, identity management and support. They sit on top of product usage rather than replacing metered prices. Choose them because you need their specific controls, not because an event count has crossed a threshold.
| Package | Monthly package fee | Examples of added capabilities |
|---|---|---|
| Boost | $250 | Unlimited projects, SSO enforcement, white labeling and eligible BAA option |
| Scale | $750 | Boost features, SAML and priority support |
| Enterprise | Custom | Advanced access control, dedicated support, SCIM and contractual options |
Analytics retention is one year on Free and seven years on Pay-as-you-go. Web Session Replay retention is one month on Free and 90 days on Pay-as-you-go. Boost and Scale can extend replay retention to 12 months, while Enterprise supports longer retention subject to its terms. Consult the official package comparison for the exact capabilities you require.
How Much Does PostHog Scale Cost on Primingo?
Primingo currently advertises a one-year PostHog Scale redeem code for $80. That is a third-party listing, not the official PostHog Scale price of $750 per month plus product usage. The seller describes redemption and increased limits, but its code source, eligibility, authorization and equivalence to the official package have not been independently established in this article.
Primingo’s PostHog Scale redeem code product page lists the duration and advertised amount. Before purchasing, ask the seller for written confirmation of the eligible account type, redemption method, available features, actual allowances, activation deadline, support coverage and what happens at renewal. Obtain confirmation from PostHog when official package equivalence matters.
The official $750 monthly package would total $9,000 in platform fees over 12 months before product usage and taxes. Do not treat the difference between $9,000 and the third-party $80 listing as guaranteed savings unless the benefits, authorization and conditions match. The offers have different sources and potentially different contractual terms.
Does PostHog Offer Startup Credits or Discounts?
Eligible early-stage companies can apply for up to $50,000 in PostHog startup credits. Applicants generally must be less than two years old, have raised under $5 million, have signed up since January 1, 2023 and use a company email domain. The program has important exclusions for certain AI products, so the credit amount is not a general cash balance.
Since September 14, 2026, startup credits have excluded specified AI tools, including PostHog AI, Replay Vision, PostHog Desktop, Inbox and the PostHog Slack app. Eligible AI Observability charges remain covered. The official startup program explains the current rules. PostHog also offers nonprofit discounts in qualifying cases.
Is Self-Hosted PostHog Cheaper Than PostHog Cloud?
Self-hosting may eliminate some direct SaaS charges, but it adds infrastructure, database, security, maintenance, backup and engineering costs. PostHog warns that self-hosted deployments do not receive the same support and paid features as Cloud. For small teams, the managed free tier is often a simpler choice; compare full operational costs before assuming self-hosting will save money.
PostHog’s self-hosting documentation describes the limitations. Teams with special infrastructure or privacy requirements should evaluate the trade-offs using their actual event volume and available engineering capacity.
How Can You Reduce PostHog Usage Costs?
Lower PostHog costs by reducing unnecessary captured activity while keeping the data needed to make decisions. The most useful controls are selective autocapture, appropriate anonymous tracking, sampled session recordings, careful feature flag request frequency and product-specific spend monitoring. Avoid cost cutting that silently removes data required for reliable reporting.
- Inspect noisy events. Remove duplicate or irrelevant automatic events that no dashboard or analysis needs.
- Identify people selectively. Use person profiles where customer-level analysis requires them.
- Sample recordings. Prioritize onboarding, checkout, error recovery and important conversion paths.
- Review feature flag requests. Look for unnecessary reloads and SDK calls that raise request volume.
- Check billing regularly. Use projected spend and the billable usage dashboard before limits are reached.
PostHog provides a cost optimization guide that explains how to find high-volume event types and adjust their capture settings.
Is PostHog Worth the Price in 2026?
PostHog can offer good value for developers who need Product Analytics, Session Replay, Feature Flags and experimentation in one environment. Its permanent free tier lowers the cost of testing a new product, while usage billing supports growth. The main trade-off is cost forecasting across several meters and the operational consequences of hard spending caps.
For a new SaaS product, account for app development and hosting separately. Someone building with Replit can measure signups and feature adoption in PostHog after deploying the app. Primingo’s Replit pricing analysis covers those development costs without suggesting that Replit includes PostHog billing.
If you are comparing development software sold through third-party marketplaces, Replit Core access on Primingo is a separate product listing. Its subscription, credits and terms should be assessed independently of any PostHog usage or redemption code.
How Does PostHog Compare With Mixpanel and Amplitude?
PostHog combines analytics with adjacent developer tools, while Mixpanel and Amplitude focus strongly on behavioral and product analysis. Free event limits alone do not establish which service is cheaper. Compare the same monthly traffic, event definitions, replay requirements, retention periods and support needs before estimating total cost.
| Platform | Core positioning | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| PostHog | Analytics plus developer tools | Multiple product meters and spending caps |
| Mixpanel | Behavioral product analytics | Event definitions, paid usage and replay terms |
| Amplitude | Product analytics and enterprise analysis | Plan limits, retention, governance and support |
A fair purchasing decision uses current quotes or calculators for all three platforms instead of comparing unmatched headline allowances.
When comparing a broader software budget, the Primingo lists other available software offers. Check each provider’s official usage rules and confirm any marketplace-specific conditions before purchasing.
Frequently Asked Questions About PostHog Pricing
Do You Need a Credit Card for PostHog Free?
No. PostHog’s permanent Free plan can be started without a credit card. You only need to add a payment method when you want usage beyond free limits or access to selected paid capabilities. Without paid usage enabled, affected activity may stop at the free allowance.
How Much Do One Million Extra PostHog Analytics Events Cost?
One million additional anonymous Product Analytics events immediately above the shared free allowance cost approximately $50 at the starting rate of $0.00005 per event. Identified events may cost more, and larger volumes use progressive rates. The estimate excludes other products, optional packages and taxes.
Can You Set a PostHog Spending Limit to $0?
Yes. PostHog’s pricing FAQ says you can configure a $0 billing limit when you want to measure usage without incurring paid overages. Be aware that reaching the cap can stop affected data collection. Review expected event volume and alerts before relying on a hard limit.
Does PostHog Scale Include Unlimited Events?
No. Official Scale is a $750 monthly platform package for management and support capabilities, plus the usual applicable product usage charges. It does not replace Product Analytics, Session Replay or Feature Flags metering with unlimited free usage. Third-party redemption offers require separate verification.
What Should You Verify Before Buying a PostHog Redeem Code?
Check the code’s origin, seller authorization, account eligibility, activation requirements, included benefits, expiry, renewal terms and ongoing usage charges. A third-party listing’s title or advertised discount does not establish equivalence with an official PostHog subscription. Request written terms before paying.
